Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic had hit all over the world, including Indonesia, the government was taking strategic steps to deal with the impact of the pandemic in terms of health, social and economic aspects. Social assistance was one of the assistance provided by the government to the people who needed, however, to cover all needs, people are still required to work to survive. 1001 Malam Village is a village located in Surabaya and an isolated village and during the pandemic the residents felt the impact of the pandemic, they carried out various behaviors to meet their needs during the pandemic and post-pandemic so that they could continue to survive. This research aims to describe the actions of poor families in 1001 Malam village in meeting their living needs in the pandemic and post-pandemic era of Covid-19. Using a qualitative approach or ethnographic method with data collection techniques through direct observation, interviews and online literature. The results show that families in 1001 Malam Village use rational value actions, by carrying out new innovations through starting a business, use instrumental rationality by switching to new jobs and adding more profitable side jobs, and some people use traditional actions, for those who remain in a job for a long time even though the job conditions are financially unstable.
