Abstract
The rapid development of short video–based social media, particularly TikTok, has become an integral part of daily life and raised concerns regarding its impact on health, especially sleep quality. The high duration of TikTok use is often assumed to contribute to sleep disturbances; however, previous studies have reported inconsistent findings. This study aimed to examine the relationship between TikTok usage duration and sleep quality among active social media users. A quantitative approach with a survey method was employed involving 69 respondents selected based on predetermined criteria. Data were collected through an online questionnaire measuring daily TikTok usage duration and sleep quality, and subsequently analyzed using JASP statistical software. Normality testing indicated that the data were not normally distributed; therefore, Spearman correlation analysis was applied. The results showed a correlation coefficient of ρ = –0.168 with a significance value of p = 0.167 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between TikTok usage duration and sleep quality. In conclusion, the findings suggest that the duration of TikTok use alone does not directly determine an individual’s sleep quality. Other factors such as patterns of use before bedtime and self-regulation should be considered to better understand and improve sleep quality.
