Abstract
The high intensity of social media use among college students as emerging adults increases their vulnerability to social comparison triggered by idealized portrayals of life in the digital space. This phenomenon has the potential to trigger psychological pressure in the form of anxiety due to individuals' inability to meet the standards of achievement or lifestyle displayed online. This study aims to determine the relationship between social comparison and anxiety among students who use social media. This study uses a correlational quantitative approach and data collection using a questionnaire in the form of a Google Form. The instruments used include the Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) to measure social comparison and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). The population in this study consisted of active college students in Surabaya aged 18-25 years who use social media. The data analysis technique used was the Spearman rho test using SPSS 25 for Windows software. The analysis results showed that the correlation coefficient (r) value was 0.387 with a significance value (p) of 0.000. These findings indicate a significant positive relationship with a moderate level of strength between social comparison and anxiety among students who use social media.
