SMKN 1 Surabaya menjadi salah satu sekolah yang patut dipertimbangkan masyarakat dalam memasuki dunia pendidikan terutama siswa kelas XII jurusan Broadcasting. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami rasionalitas siswa memilih Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) di SMKN 1 Surabaya dari kelas sosial menengah atas. Kesadaran siswa sebagai aktor juga berperan dalam mengendalikan sumber daya yang dimiliki dengan mempertimbangkan suatu nilai yang ingin dicapai sebelum memilih jenjang pendidikan di SMKN 1 Surabaya. Masalah ini dibahas berdasarkan fakta dilapangan dengan metode penelitian deksriptif dengan perspektif teoritik James S. Coleman. Hasil penelitian memilih karena status negeri, memilih karena salah satu SMKN favorit di Surabaya, memilih karena tertarik dengan jurusan, dan memilih karena termotivasi mengulang kesuksesan alumninya. Sumber daya berupa latar belakang pendidikan keluarga, latar belakang lingkungan sosial keluarga, dan latar belakang perekonomian keluarga. Nilai disini tujuan yang ditentukan berdasarkan nilai atau pilihan aktor. Terdapat 2 nilai, yaitu nilai kekeluargaan dan nilai emosi.

Abstract

SMKN 1 Surabaya became one of the schools that should be considered by the community in entering the world of education, especially class XII students majoring in Broadcasting. This study aims to understand the rationality of students choosing Vocational High School (SMK) in SMKN 1 Surabaya from upper social class. Student awareness as an actor also plays a role in controlling resources owned by considering a value to be achieved before choosing a level of education in SMKN 1 Surabaya. This problem is discussed based on facts in the field with descriptive research method with theoretical perspective James S. Coleman. The result of the study chose because of the status of the country, chose because one of the favorite SMKN in Surabaya, chose because interested in majors, and chose because motivated to repeat the success of alumni. Resources are in the form of family education background, background of family social environment, and family economic background. The value here is the destination that is determined by the actors value or choice. There are 2 values, namely the value of kinship and emotional value.
