Abstract
The background of the research is the importance of risk taking behavior for climbers in making decisions before climbing. It aims to gain valuable experience and be better prepared regarding the risks that will be experienced, both physically, socially, and financially. One of the factors that influence risk taking behavior is sensation seeking. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between sensation seeking and risk taking behavior on mountain climbers. This research uses quantitative research methods. The sampling technique used was the saturated sample technique, where the entire population was used in the study. The total population and sample consisted of 80 climbers in the Jejak Angin Alas community. The age range is 17-30 years, with 62 males and 38 females. Data collection in this study used a sensation seeking scale based on the Zuckerman scale of 40 items. Theinstrument risk-taking behavior uses ascale risk-taking inventory based on Woodmen et al., totaling 7 items. The data analysis technique uses thecorrelation technique product moment. The results of this study indicate the value of the correlation coefficient of 0.431 with a significance value of 0.000. It can be interpreted that there is a significant relationship between sensation seeking and risk taking behavior on mountain climbers.
