Abstract
Mental health problems in Indonesia continue to increase, especially among young people aged 15–24 years. The low rate of treatment exacerbates this condition and increases the risk of suicide. This study aims to analyze the psychological dynamics of a patient with severe depression and psychotic symptoms through Alfred Adler’s Individual Psychology perspective. The method used is a qualitative study with a case study approach involving a 15-year-old male adolescent diagnosed with severe depression and psychotic symptoms. Data were collected through in-depth interviews (auto-anamnesis and allo-anamnesis), observation, and documentation study. The results show that depression with psychotic symptoms in the subject is influenced by authoritarian and neglectful parenting patterns, bullying experiences, lack of social support, and feelings of inferiority that developed into an inferiority complex. Traumatic experiences caused by an accident involving others further reinforced feelings of guilt, leading to hallucinations and delusions. Based on Adler’s theory, the subject’s failure to transform feelings of inferiority into superiority resulted in severe psychological disturbances. The implications of this study highlight the importance of psychosocial interventions focusing on strengthening self-esteem, improving parenting patterns, and enhancing social support to prevent the development of severe depression among adolescents.
