Abstract
This study explores the self-efficacy profile of a taekwondo poomsae athlete, focusing on the participant’s experiences in developing, maintaining, and reinforcing self-efficacy throughout their athletic journey. Self-efficacy is a crucial psychological factor influencing poomsae performance, a discipline that demands precision, accuracy, concentration, and both physical and mental endurance. The study aims to describe how a poomsae athlete sustains and strengthens self-efficacy through perseverance, self-confidence, and adaptive coping strategies. A qualitative case study approach was employed using in-depth structured interviews and systematic observations to understand the athlete’s psychological processes related to self-efficacy. The findings reveal that the participant demonstrates a high level of self-efficacy, maintaining motivation and persistence under pressure, showing strong self-belief formed through experience, and effectively adapting performance strategies across training and competition contexts. Athletes with high self-efficacy tend to exhibit better emotional control, mental adaptability, and stability during competition. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of fostering internal motivation, perseverance, and mental flexibility as key components of athletic performance. Self-efficacy plays a vital role in training, contributing not only to performance consistency but also to long-term psychological resilience. These insights provide valuable implications for coaches and athletes in developing strategies to enhance psychological strength and performance quality in competitive sports.
